basically abridged them if you wanna be technical. So overall GATE in the English dub by sentai filmworks is average where it probably won't be remembered well for an English dub and did not surpass the Japanese dub in anyway where so far our only anime in English dub that out did their original Japanese dub sources are so far Dragon Ball all the way to Super cause I haven't heard people give too many negative thoughts on the English dub to that as of yet outside of the usual "DUBS ARE BLASPHEMY!!!!" from people who aren't even Japanese to begin with, and let's see you know to be fair I haven't heard anyone say much on sailor moon in the redub lately so I can't say much there, and Ghost Stories along with Shin chan where rather the simply dub it they improvised the scripts to make it funny to American audiences.
GATE ANIME ENGLISH DUB FUNIMATION FULL
kind of like how I and may a couple other people pointed out maile flannagan really isn't as cut out to play Naruto anymore give her age and her voice coming off as more raspy than anything especially when he's a full grown man but I guess that just comes from differences in health compared to Junko who manages to pull it off still. I know Brittany plays wendy in fairy tail but given her age and how half the time it sounds she struggles to try and make her voice sound young compared to monica rial is a real noticeable thing. The final episode in where we see the couples showing off just didn't sound right especially when you have 2 military officers in their 30's or at least appear that way due to their buff and gruff and appearances where in the Japanese dub they had older manly voices where as the English dub took a different approach here. not sure if Tuka saying Father would have been an improvement over how the English dub had her say daddy in a modern context was appropriate given the structure of her world's language but then again I wouldn't really know when translating Japanese since half the time there tends to be a double or triple meaning in their words and sentences depending on context of the situation. It's not to say it was completely terrible but the moments where the voices or the sound of things don't exactly sound right in some episodes really throws a curve ball. and there's a couple of times when it sounds off like the editoral team did not really take the time to make sure it sounded good or sounded like it was authentic but this is nothing new cause sentai filmworks for all the very very few successes they have had for some reason always seem to seem to fuck up the sound quality of their voice actors or even tell the actors to project the characters properly.
GATE ANIME ENGLISH DUB FUNIMATION SERIES
when I heard the English dub was coming out I was kind of expecting the English dub cast to not really treat other world characters in the same way they would handle fairy tail since this is not that kind of series to begin with. in the Japanese dub while I am aware the voice actors do keep a sense of modern Japanese language there is that bit of effort in showing their dialect is based on they talk from their mannerisms due to their world's structure. but then you've got others who.just don't sound right especially when a few of them are well in their 30's and such. and by main cast I am referring to these 4 up in the image were handled well enough. so like with any English dub some awkward dialogue that was either translated too literally or just altered in the wrong way was to be expected.

Okay I watched about 8 episodes of season 1 and don't ask me how but a guy I follow managed to get his hands on season 2 of the English dub already so I took a gander of how that was handled with the final episode.
